Clockwise opens its first German location in Bremen: Flexible coworking with a regional flair
Success storiesA home for work: How Clockwise combines community, flexibility, and innovation
The office provider has opened one of the city’s largest coworking and flexible office spaces in Bremen, spanning five floors. The focus is on fostering a family-like atmosphere and a vibrant community.
Clockwise aims to stand out from traditional office providers. Its concept goes beyond flexible workstations, private offices, fixed desks, and meeting rooms. The team hosts regular events which focus on wellbeing, professional development and socializing to create a sense of community. For example, the “Meet Your Clockwise Neighbours” event encourages members to connect in a relaxed setting with drinks, snacks, and games. Additionally, the “12.Min.Me” event format allows companies to present their projects informally. This event is held monthly on Martinistraße, featuring speakers from “12.Min.Me” and the Clockwise community. Three speakers each have twelve minutes for their presentations, followed by twelve minutes for questions and twelve minutes for networking. The format provides a platform for exchange, inspiration, and collaboration.

Coworking: Turning office colleagues into a family
The goal is not just to provide workspaces but to foster a community where people can grow both professionally and personally. “Our slogan, ‘Your Home for Work,’ reflects what makes us special: hospitality, community, and a place where people feel comfortable,” explains Lubi Barre, the General Manager at Clockwise Bremen. The offering is open to everyone, from large corporations and startups to freelancers and students. Many events also welcome external guests in addition to the coworking members.
Barre embodies this spirit of community. The general manager, who has Somali roots, is also a writer and curator. Born in Paris and raised in California, her multicultural background shapes her work and understanding of people and cultures. She writes short stories, poems, and essays and hosts events that passionately connect culture and creativity. “The job at Clockwise allows me to build diverse connections in the city and support people regardless of their age or background. I love fostering partnerships and organizing events that strengthen community and collaboration.”

Engaging with the city
Thanks to Barre’s dedication, Clockwise has quickly established itself in Bremen since its opening in spring 2024. Local partnerships and word of mouth have significantly contributed to its growing reputation. “The openness and support from the people of Bremen have been a tremendous help,” Barre says. The WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH (Bremeninvest) also supports Clockwise with networking activities and location matters.
Collaborating closely with local stakeholders is a central part of Clockwise’s strategy. Barre’s team ensures that most products, such as coffee, snacks, and decorative items, are sourced regionally. The site’s design also reflects its connection to the city. Elements like the clay cladding at the reception, inspired by the sediment structure of the Weser River, and works by local artists give the spaces a regional identity.
A personal connection between Bremen and the UK seals the decision
Choosing Bremen as Clockwise’s first German location was a deliberate decision. Alexandra Livesey, Chief Operating Officer at Clockwise, who is originally from northern Germany and now lives in Manchester, was eager to open a location in the region. She found Bremen vibrant and innovative – the perfect place for a first site in Germany. “We focus on opening locations in smaller cities like Bremen rather than major metropolises, as these have great potential,” Barre explains. According to her, flexible office spaces offering comprehensive services like Clockwise had not existed in Bremen before.

Clockwise aims to excel in flexibility. Members can adjust their rental agreements monthly, for instance, in response to changing business needs. Additionally, it provides an all-inclusive service, covering internet, furniture, cleaning, beverages, and 24/7 support.
Coworking spaces perfectly complement modern work environments
Barre is convinced that coworking spaces represent the future of work. “Traditional offices do not offer the flexibility that is in demand today,” she explains. Especially as many companies adopt agile structures and their employees work increasingly hybrid or mobile, coworking spaces like Clockwise offer an ideal alternative. In Bremen, it’s evident that many users seek a more productive environment than working from home – whether for mental wellbeing or the desire to be part of a community.
Big plans for 2025
For 2025, Clockwise has ambitious plans. The team aims to increase its visibility in Bremen, strengthen collaboration with local partners, and launch new community projects. The goal is to integrate Clockwise even more firmly into Bremen’s innovation landscape. “Bremen provides us with the perfect foundation: an engaged community, affordable living costs, and a strong local identity. We look forward to growing further here,” Barre emphasizes.
Having lived in Hamburg for eleven years, Barre has also grown fond of Bremen: “Bremen has surprised me with its openness and warmth. The people here are welcoming, and the city is multicultural. Bremen has a strong local identity without being pretentious,” she praises.
