Our 10 Most Favourite Places Last Year
Quality of lifeThe most beautiful images of Bremen 2024
Whether it’s on Instagram, on websites, in brochures or on advertising posters – pictures tell stories and are the inspiration for dreams. This is why expressive photos are essential when it comes to telling the world just how wonderful Bremen is.
Every year, we engage professional photographers to take many, many photos to document our Hanseatic city. These images are used in many places, and some of them end up in our “Bremen Media” image database, which is used by marketing managers, journalists, bloggers and influencers from around the world when promoting the beauties of Bremen.
Here’s a selection of some of the most entrancing urban images of 2024:
1. A Sundowner in the New Harbour District
Enjoying the sunsets in Bremen’s New Harbour District (Überseestadt) is no longer a well-kept secret. If you take an evening stroll through Europe’s largest harbour regeneration project, you’ll be treated to a magnificent display of glorious colour in the sky. And it only gets better if you take a seat in one of the many local bars and enjoy an appropriately named cocktail.
2. Experiencing contrasts
Industrial charm, modernity and green spaces on the same photo: a perfect depiction of the New Harbour District where a new city neighbourhood is being brought to life, combining the latest developments in urban planning and energy strategies with historic industrial architecture.
3. Captivated by history
Bremen’s Überseemuseum, with its permanent collections and temporary exhibitions on natural history and anthropology, is not merely captivating on the inside. The exterior of the museum, which opened in 1896, is equally striking and is unmissable by anyone who has ever arrived in Bremen by train, as it’s located right next to the main railway station.
4. Party all night long
The "Viertel" district is a fashionable place for party nights, hanging out and just having a good time. From the Sielwall junction in the heart of the neighbourhood, you can easily reach a myriad of old-world bars and little restaurants with a surprising diversity of menus.
5. A relaxing stroll round the Christmas market
Bremen’s Christmas market draws in more than three million visitors from Northern Germany, the rest of Europe and even further afield. It’s also an important time of year for Bremen’s retailers, as many of the shops around the Market’s stands also hold their annual clearance sales at the same time. 6. Industry in green spaces
Industry from a rather different perspective: thanks to its excellent connections to transport links, the Bremen Hansalinie Industrial Estate has become a magnet for logistics companies. And there are also green spaces to be found amidst the vast industrial halls – like here, next to the new “One Box” hall which was constructed next to the quarry pond on the Hansalinie estate in 2024.
7. Beautiful Living
These images could come straight from the pages of a glossy lifestyle magazine. They were taken in the Tobacco Quarter, a one-of-a-kind urban regeneration project, by Jan Meier. This project is transforming the site of a former tobacco factory in Bremen's Woltmershausen district into a modern city district to which people can come to live, work and enjoy their leisure time.
8. The shimmering Schnoor
Acknowledged as one of the most beautiful streets in the world, the picturesque Schnoor neighbourhood is an absolute must for any visitor to Bremen. It’s in the evenings that this area’s enchanting atmosphere really reveals itself – even if it’s not that easy to take a photo that doesn’t include people, because absolutely everyone wants to experience these magical streets.
9. Unbound enthusiasm
Bremen without water would be unimaginable. The river and the sea have shaped the city’s life and its economy for millennia. This relationship is celebrated in the Maritime Woche festival each year. A special highlight is the illuminated parade in which brightly decorated boats sail down the Weser, to the delight of the thousands of visitors crowding the banks.
10. Warm days, hot nights
When the heat of high summer forces Bremen’s citizens out of doors, you know it’s time for the Breminale festival. The open-air festival, which is free of charge, is a highlight for young and old alike. During the day, the programme of events is designed for families, but, when night falls, local bands playing everything from electro to rock and hip-hop get the party going for anyone who wants to dance the night away.
